Scholarship

The amount of scholarship endowment is an important criterion in choosing a university.

Of the more than 200 kinds of scholarships at Waseda University, approximately seventy percent are "grant scholarships" which do not require repayment. This abundance far exceeds comparison with any other private university. Presently, more than seventy percent of the students who apply are receiving scholarships. And one student may receive as many as four different scholarships. (See graph.)

Waseda University's Department of Science and Engineering gives encouragement to the self-reliant. For those students who may not be able to attend university on their own resources or do not want to burden their parents or guardians, as well as those who are not eligible for scholarships (for example, because their parents' salaries are too high or their grade-point average does not meet the required standard), the following low-interest loans are made available.
#Matriculation loan *1) Since the loan is guaranteed by Waseda, students can receive the loan, without the need for collateral, directly from a financial institution that is connected to the university. *2) In addition, the matriculation loan contains a "fixed-interest portion" whose interest payments are subsidized by the university. #Waseda University tuition loan
